This was a different kind of pinewood derby: late in the year, the activity day girls, leaders and siblings were allowed to compete, and they didn't race each track or boy against each other.
That being said, it was still a fun evening with plenty of surprises (wheels and chips of car coming apart with last minute repairs AND sideways racing!)...
Owen's candle car was awesome, and it raced better backwards. Troy's racing car had red flames. They enjoyed making them and racing them, even after the "official" race.

Nervous and excited smiles...
Troy's car is the red flames car
Owen's car spun out and finished the race sideways
Troy got 3rd place!
(Our unofficial opinion is that minus girls and siblings, Troy and Owen would have both placed in the top 3... But that doesn't really matter, it is the fun of the derby that counts!)

Ah the Pinewood derby...it was the best of times, it was the worst of times...we only have 2 more to go and then we are done :)
Interesting to include the girls. Nice that Troy took third. Was OK not placing? Nice looking cars.
The joy is in the journey... even if we end up skidding in sideways, right?
