May 2020: Flowers and Gardens

We were very inspired at the bird's nest we found.  The momma bird sat on those eggs in the middle of a horrible wind storm. The next day they hatched and we were thrilled to see her hard work pay off.

Owen made me a front garden for Mother's Day.

And Owen, Troy, and Micah all loved decorating their window wells with flowers and greenery.

Taking care of our garden...

Nothing really grew in our garden this year.  Our theory is that the pest control sprayed around the gardens and kept the bees away.  So it was quite fun to take the zucchini plant out and spread it back and forth across the yard...  The plant itself was huge - no zucchini though... :(

Our spring garden

I planted live plants (blueberry bushes, tomato plants, and flowers).
The kids planted dead branches.
Happy First Day of Spring!

Gonna be a bright sunshine-y day!

Random summer photos...

We love silly hairstyles by Dad, sunshine, sunflowers...

There is sunshine in my soul today

Ahhh, after a week of gloom and doom and rain, we have sunshine again! Sunshine, smiles, spirit, and starting over again with a new week...

I know the rain helps things grow, just like trials, but I sure like the sunshine more. I am grateful that the Sun/Son is always there to chase away clouds and bring me the light that I need.

Our Summer Harvest

We had a great summer with our garden. 15 zucchini, 34 tomatoes (and still counting), and 2 watermelons later we are completely sold on the idea of our own produce. They were so yuuuuuummmmmmmmy!
We didn't think our watermelons turned out right because they stayed so small. As an experiment we finally picked them and cut them open, and wow! They were delicious. Here is a picture of them, along with Troy's artwork.
Time for fall planting!

Watermelons

Bob wants me to take pictures of these every day! It is amazing how fast they grow, and how cute they are in our little garden. We have 2 this size (slightly bigger than a tomato), and a few more baby ones like the previous picture. The vines are soon going to take over the yard, and then the world! Any suggestions?

See how they grow...indeed!

We are so excited!
The squash and zucchini are growing!
(I know experienced gardeners are rolling their eyes,
realizing we will all be sick of zucchini in a while...)

The tomatoes are almost ready!

We have baby watermelons to watch grow.

I think this crop is the best!

Our garden

It is growing! We have tiny green tomatoes, flowering zucchini plants... we are so excited! I'm not a great garderner, this is our first time (besides last summer when we tried things in pots and had a green bean harvest of 7... 7 beans...) I feel a connection to my Grandpa Lee, who was an excellent garderner and had the yummiest food. I hope this tiny garden yields something yummy too!
