We went on a difficult hike to the top of Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas- part of the Guadalupe mountain range, near Carlsbad, TX. It is about a 2 hour drive from our home.

The trail is well marked and maintained, but it is a rather difficult hike- 4.3 miles each way, and it took us 3.5 hours just to get to the top. Not quite as difficult as hiking Mt Timpanogos (see our blog post of this hike from July 2010), but it was grueling.
It was a nice day, and the boys were all totally excited about getting to the top (especially at first- some of their enthusiasm waned as it became clear this was a long and hard hike.
They caught their second wind when it was clear the top was only minutes away. Jonas and some of the others ran (literally) the last few minutes so they could be the first to the summit. Here are the 5 victorious, the first to reach the top.
After we came back down, the boys were hungry so we all ate a picnic lunch before heading back.

How fun, looks like a swell hike. Glad I didn't have to do it. Boys are so full of life and energy and I know that some dads are too. Great pictures!
