Bob and I were hoping to take a vacation before his deployment in August. An opportunity landed in our laps that would allow Bob to be of great service to someone as well as having a vacation paid for! A very long time ago, Bob signed up to be a bone marrow donor. At the beginning of the year, the donation center called him and let him know he was a perfect match for someone. They arranged our flights and hotel in San Diego, as well as covered all of our food expenses. Bob received daily injections to help his body produce more bone marrow. He was allowed to take Tylenol for any bone pain as his body produced more and more bone marrow. After day 5, he had enough to donate. They hooked him up to a machine similar to a dialysis machine to take his blood out, separate the bone marrow and stem cells, and then put his blood back in.
Since the majority of our days and nights were free, we relaxed and enjoyed some of the sights (and tastes) of San Diego. We had a great time! (THANK YOU MAMMA FOR BABYSITTING!)
